Newest midlands air ambulance landing site for Derbyshire and Staffordshire unveiled at the MRA

On Saturday the 12th of December at 11.00am the MRA will be unveiling the newest Midlands air ambulance landing site for Derbyshire and Staffordshire.

The project has been funded by the family of the late Neil Ward of Ashbourne who sadly passed away from a Cardiac Arrest as he was being medi-vacced by the Air Ambulance crew. The vital minutes lost by bringing him over a fence contributed to Neil having a second Cardiac Arrest causing his untimely and premature death.

Neil’s family asked for a designated easy access zone to be found in the village of Mayfield, Staffordshire where any member of the community who needed a safe and quick emergency evacuation via the air ambulance could have this. The landing zone is at the Mayfield Recreation Association Playing Field and Neil’s family have erected a sign in his memory. The family have worked tirelessly and passionately to secure this site and wish for it to be publicised however possible and to publicly thank all the members of the community who supported the project mainly Charles Wimbush outgoing Secretary of the MRA for giving permission for the site to be used and for providing all necessary information to the East Midlands and West Midlands Ambulance Services and the Midlands Air Ambulance Charity. To Joe Beach of Meadow signs for completing the sign to commemorate the late Neil Ward’s memory and to ensure that the access to the landing zone is kept clear at all times.
